I am Otis Lyons, a 24-year-old from the San Francisco Bay Area. I had a childhood full of travel and adventure with my beautiful family and supportive community that made me feel safe and loved. From the moment I said my first word—'ball'—sports have been a defining part of my life, shaping my passions and guiding my journey as I grew up. I believe every kid deserves a childhood like mine. A chance to discover themselves, to succeed and fail many times, and to find their passions all in the safety of their surroundings. Every kid deserves a childhood.
That is why I am running the length of California for the children of Gaza. Right now, over a million children live in the Gaza Strip, many in desperate need of medical care. I hope to channel my love of adventure and sport to help fundraise for the rehabilitation of clinics and service provision in the ONLY fully-rehabilitated children’s hospital in the Gaza Strip, Rantisi Hospital. This facility will provide critical care to thousands of children aged newborn to 18 years, not only for physical ailments but also for their mental health as they seek recovery from the trauma of a prolonged war and occupation.
Every dollar raised from The California Run for Gaza will go directly towards providing children with critical medical care at the Rantisi Hospital in Gaza City. This includes treatment for gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine conditions, ENT issues, and mental health support to help them heal from the trauma of war.
Humanity Auxilium is managing 3 departments at the Rantisi Children's Hospital in Gaza City. For a population of 1 million children, this is the only functioning pediatric hospital in the Gaza Strip.
We are providing services in ENT, Endocrinology, and Gastroenterology, as well as mental health and psychosocial support. We are expecting about 1100 pediatric patients monthly to provide 3,300 services. We are also providing employment to 70 local staff members in Gaza, offering a vital source of income. Our monthly budget is $113,244.
My name is Max Martin. I am an outdoor enthusiast and advocate. I am proud to support the people of Gaza, HA, and my longtime friend Otis! I will be documenting Otis’s journey and making sure he stays healthy during this rigorous run.
My name is Ava Nielsen! I am a Texas born creative and adventure seeker, and a lover of storytelling. I am honored to have a hand in making a difference for the people of Gaza with the help of HA, and of course my dear friend Otis.
